    Pressure cook the toor dal with turmeric and salt until soft, then mash lightly.

    Heat ghee in a small pan, crackle cumin seeds, then add onion and sauté until golden.

    Add ginger garlic paste and tomatoes, cooking until soft and the oil separates.

  4. 4

    Pour this tempering into the cooked dal, stir in red chilli powder, and simmer for 5 minutes.

    Garnish with chopped coriander leaves before serving.
